Spring Cleaning (a little Krispy)

So there is not too much of a difference between last week's pictures and this week's photos (other than Duncan made his first blogger appearance). In honor of spring, it is time for some cleaning, not with my home, but with my diet. I do not eat poorly but I definitely have lapses in judgment, which is going to be the source of significant setbacks on this journey.

I learned a little lesson from a lovely little Krispy Kreme. I haven't had a Krispy Kreme since I moved from Iowa and SOMEONE decided to give our office a dozen as a gift on Friday. I was PERFECTLY FINE in my ignorance - I was diligently distracted in my office when my boss made their presence known. Of course, I nearly ran to investigate and before I knew it, I had the delicious frosted goodness in my mouth. This was only three days after I started this blog and promised to be more accountable. So here I am blog universe, hold me accountable. I also had a 16 ounce diet coke.

Allie and I generally eat well. We don't keep a ton of crap food around the house and I benefit from her personal choice to eat free range, cage free and hormone free. My weakness is pasta and cereal (my friends joke that I have two food groups; cereal and mac and cheese). My new lifestyle needs to include a lot less processed food and less carbs. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins before (only to gain is back) so I know that "diet" is not what I want/need. So I am going to try to decrease my intake of process foods and carbs.

This journey will not be without it's setbacks, but I have to realize that I need to make better choices, but I also can't kill myself with regret or I will never stick to this. I was thinking of a little detox (which will only result in loss of water weight and maybe clearer skin) but I am going to some research and consult with a friend before I see what I wanted to try. I need a lot more will power to resist the cravings as my body gets used to better choices.

It is funny, but when I am consistently practicing bikram, I make better food choices because 1. I cannot eat much before or after, and 2. I do not want to counteract all the hard work I put into my practice. I only drink water all day long. Now that I have only been practicing sporadically, I am having a harder time resisting poor food choices. Perhaps when the wallet gets tight and I can't really find the time to do bikram as much as I would like, I will try to get outside a bit (another goal of mine).

Speaking of Krispy, notice the lovely sunburn I got this weekend! On only one side! Ha! So enjoy the photos. I have a topic I want to discuss/post about in the coming days, but please sure if any of you have tried a detox- which did you do? medically approved?

  1. I did that Trader Joe's detox in a box thing a few times and felt much better afterwards. I have looked at the Jillian Michaels one a few times and then put it back on the shelf out of sheer sticker shock. The Trader Joes one is afforable and you just follow their dietary guidelines that come with it. I felt great but part of it is fiber supplements so during the process I was rather gassy.
